SALES AND EVICTIONS
Figures obtained under the Official Information Act show Housing New Zealand sales and purchases in the suburbs of Ponsonby, Point Chevalier, Grey Lynn, Waterview, Westmere, Freemans Bay and Mt Albert central since July 2012. The average state house sale price in the suburbs has jumped from about $570,000 in 2012 to more than $1 million in 2014. One Ponsonby home owned by Housing New Zealand sold for $1.2 million in the last year. In the same time period, Housing New Zealand has issued 81 notices for 90-day evictions to city-fringe tenants. Sixty were for health and safety reasons at Housing New Zealand complexes on Symonds St and Asquith Ave. Housing New Zealand refused to release how many properties were sold after tenants served with 90-day notices moved out. Five tenants have been legally evicted from city-fringe properties since July 2011 for disturbing the peace, rental arrears, undeclared income and anti-social behaviour.
