Who’s who of tennis in Caro Bowl tournament
Auckland’s premier tennis competition is set to serve up its first round of matches tonight.
The Caro Bowl was first held in 1919 and it has historically featured the best players from around New Zealand. The men’s competition gets going tonight with Pompallier facing off against last year’s finalists Blockhouse Bay while Remuera take on Cockle Bay.
Defending champions Parnell will start their cam- paign against a Kohimarama side.
The final match of the round will be Royal Oak taking on Parnell’s second team.
Opening night for the women’s draw pits defending
youthful champs Sunnyhills against Remuera at the Remuera Rackets Club.
Kohimarama is at home to Royal Oak and Pompallier host Glendowie. The two women’s Parnell sides square off against each other in the season opener at Parnell Tennis Club. This year, like other years, will feature a list of player names resembling a who’s who of former and current Davis Cup and Fed Cup players.
There is also a strong con- tingent of up and coming junior players who will again try to make their mark during the season.
