Artists in Portage ce­ramic award fi­nals

Ce­ramic artists are bat­tling it out for a cov­eted award.

Pt Che­va­lier res­i­dent Bren­dan Adams, New­ton artist Tanja Nola and West­mere’s Chuck Joseph and Louise Rive are all fi­nal­ists in the 2014 Portage Ce­ramic Awards.

The artists’ work was se­lected from more than 260 en­tries.

The an­nual awards, es­tab­lished in 2001, cel­e­brate the coun­try’s ce­ramic sec­tor. Ja­panese award­win­ning ce­ram­i­cist Takeshi Ya­suda will travel from Jingdezhen, China, to judge the com­pe­ti­tion. The win­ners will be an­nounced at Ti­ti­rangi’s Te Uru Waitakere Con­tem­po­rary Gallery, for­merly Lopdell House Gallery, to­mor­row. The fi­nal­ists’ works will ex­hib­ited from Novem­ber 7 to Fe­bru­ary 8 at the gallery.

Clay magic: Ce­ramic artist Bren­dan Adams is a fi­nal­ist in the 2014 Portage Ce­ramic Awards with his clay cre­ation Eti­quette Train­ing Cup Right Handed ‘Dex­ter’.
