Emo­tive ce­ramic takes top award

A mov­ing ce­ramic work has bagged its cre­ator a cov­eted ce­ramic prize.

West­mere artist Louise Rive won the 2014 Premier Portage Award and $15,000 for her work The Space Be­tween.

The award was pre­sented to her by in­ter­na­tional judge Takeshi Ya­suda last night at Ti­ti­rangi’s newly opened Te Uru Waitakere Con­tem­po­rary Gallery, for­merly Lopdell House Gallery.

Ya­suda says the win­ning work dis­plays an over­whelm­ing sense of emo­tion.

Rive has been paint­ing and cre­at­ing ce­ramic works for more than 30 years.
