De­vel­oper’s de­ceit

I have been wor­ried about the St James The­atre for some time and am very happy that there is some move­ment to re­store it.

The high-rise apart­ment block is prob­lem­atic for a num­ber of rea­sons but in prin­ci­ple I don’t have a prob­lem with it.

What is a prob­lem how­ever is the video of the de­vel­op­ment.

It clearly shows sev­eral build­ings of a sim­i­lar size to the south of the Town Hall (most clearly at 00.12).

The whole of Greys Ave is a dark canyon of high rise build­ings which don’t ex­ist.

My­ers Park has dis­ap­peared al­to­gether. The tall build­ings shown on the Karanga­hape Rd to the left of the St James Tower don’t ex­ist ei­ther (and never can as there’s a height limit).

It’s re­ally not very good that this is how they are sell­ing the project to the pub­lic.

They are try­ing to make it look as if the build­ing will fit right in be­cause it will be only one of sev­eral build­ings of the same size, when in fact none of those build­ings ex­ist.

They may try to ar­gue that it is
