Aucklanders have gone online in droves to find out how much their house has increased in value. But overwhelming demand saw Auckland Council’s capital valuations website broken for most of Monday. The website had almost one million views on November 10, council says. The site was unable to cope with the high number of people trying to search their address. More staff and resources have been put in to get the website back up to speed. Auckland values have jumped about a third since 2011. Some areas such as Hobsonville, Forrest Hill and Mangere Bridge are up more than 50 per cent. Capital valuations, also known as rateable values or government valuation, are calculated based on other properties in the same area. Go toland GISViewer to look up your house’s new capital valuation.
