Hidden gems, vibrant scene
What do you like best about Ponsonby?
Its rich tapestry of people and places. I love living here, it’s close to all my favourite places and has so many hidden gems and spaces to be discovered and enjoyed. How long have you lived here and where are you originally from?
My husband and I moved to Ponsonby six years ago from South Auckland for the convenience and lifestyle. I love being so close to Auckland’s vibrant social scene and the shopping, nightlife and dining options just can’t be beat. What do you like least and how can we fix it?
Car parking can be challenging at times. Us Aucklanders love our cars so much, and it has been an issue for some time. Perhaps a monorail like they have in Sydney, then my husband could drive it! Who does the best fish and chips?
Without a doubt the Ponsonby Road Fish n Chip shop. The fish is so fresh and while it’s getting battered, I can pop across the road to SPQR for a wine.
Throw in a couple of DVDs and you have the perfect date night. Who is the Kiwi you admire the most?
I love and respect Annah Stretton, and am so proud to call her a friend. She’s an inspirational and dedicated woman in business.
I love her philosophy on life, her fashion, her fabulous nature and her willingness to make serious changes in the lives of people less fortunate. If I was Auckland’s mayor I’d . . .
Highlight the issues being faced by employees, do more about the growing problem of homelessness and ensure there was a Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Intersex parade every month – no-one can be unhappy when there is a parade on! The spot I’d recommend to tourists is . . . Ponsonby Central. It’s vibrant, centrally located, offers a wide variety of food choices, cute clothing pop-up stores, adorable homewares, bars and even a supermarket.
It’s a great place to catch the sun and hang out with friends. Go there today, you won’t regret it!
