Feedback favours a park

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

A majority want to see 254 Ponsonby Rd developed into a large park, according to feedback submitted so far on the controversial site.

Three draft concept options have been released for the 2347 square metre plot, currently occupied by upmarket food store Nosh, and the Waitemata Local Board is gathering public feedback on the plans.

It has received 387 responses to date.

About 75 per cent of those are in support of option three – a large open space which could take more than 10 years to be developed in to a park.

Other options include a medium-sized open space with residential development or a small, 700 square metre open space with commercial and residential development.

Auckland Council purchased the site in 2006 to provide an urban square in the heart of the Ponsonby business area for community gatherings and events.
