Kiwis stand up for beliefs
What do you like best about Grey Lynn?
I love living in a peaceful, clean and quiet neighbourhood while also being so close to the CBD and everything I need.
How long have you lived here and where are you originally from?
I moved to Grey Lynn, New Zealand, in 2005 from Los Angeles. I lived in LA for 26 years and lived my first 21 years on the eastside of Detroit, Michigan.
What do you like least and how can we fix it?
What I like least about modern society is the negativity and pressure that exists. We can change this by choosing the way we respond to people, places and things.
Where’s the best place to buy dinner in central Auckland?
Maldito Mendez, in Ponsonby Central, as they have really tasty and fresh South American food made with love.
And who does the best fish’n’chips?
I try not to eat fish’n’chips. The best fresh organic juices are made at Wise Cicada in Newmarket and Ceres Market at Ponsonby Central.
Who is the Kiwi you admire the most – and why?
I admire a lot of Kiwis because they do what they want and stand up for what they believe in.
If I was Auckland’s mayor I’d ...
Make sure we have clean water to drink and swim in, affordable rates for the elderly, clean and healthy food for all children in Auckland and plans to reduce gangs and violence. When I’ve got a free few hours I like to . . . Take a walk on our beautiful clean beaches with my partner and dog or go for a ride in the beautiful countryside.
The spot in central Auckland I’d recommend to tourists is . . .
Get a view of the city from the top of One Tree Hill and Mt Eden, lunch at Ponsonby Central, ferry ride to Waiheke and a walk on one of our beaches.
