FastTrack for tenancy rows

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

Tenancy disputes will be resolved at a quicker pace thanks to a new online system.

Building and Housing Minister Nick Smith introduced the new FastTrack Resolution service on November 17.

The idea is to speed up the process for landlords and tenants trying to resolve rent arrears disputes, which make up 76 per cent of the 4300 applications received by the Tenancy Tribunal annually. Processing times for applications will also be reduced. Smith says it will cut down the rent arrears disputes process from 12 days to as little as 48 hours.

‘‘The new system is part of the Government’s practical improvements in tenancy services,’’ he says.

The next step is to shift the tenancy bond system online, he says.
