Overseas visitors to Auckland exceeded two million for the first time ever in 2014. Results from Statistics New Zealand show 2,029,568 international arrivals to the city last year. It’s an increase of five per cent on the previous year. The annual growth includes a 14 per cent increase in arrivals from China, a 11.6 per cent increase from Germany and a 10.4 per cent increase from the United States. International guest nights in the city are now at more than three million, and Auckland hotels had an occupancy rate at 82 per cent for 2014. Auckland’s aim is to double the visitor economy from a value of $4.8 billion in 2012 to $7.2b annually in 2021.
