Auckland City Harbour News - - CLASSIFIED -

Auckland City have made a bold statement before a busy week playing two matches.

The Navy Blues trounced second-placed Team Wellington 3-0 at Kiwitea St on Sunday to be four points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.

Wellington were given a footballing lesson by their hosts which started with a penalty kick converted by John Irving.

Minutes later Ivan Carril scored a possible goal of the season as he powered a ball home from the edge of the box.

Wellington keeper Michael O’Keeffe manage to keep his team in the contest with some outstanding saves but in the final minute City’s Oscar Garcia managed to get one past to put the result beyond doubt.

‘‘I think overall we played a very focussed game and a very intense game,’’ coach Ramon Tribulietx says.

‘‘We played a good game in all aspects and the concentration of our players was outstanding today. We are recovering our motivation.’’

Auckland City will take on WaiBOP tonight at John Kerkhof Park in Cambridge, while on Sunday, Canterbury United provide the opposition at Kiwitea Street.

Fresh feet: Auckland’s Oscar Garcia makes a break on his way to scoring a goal.
