Focus on youth homelessness

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

What do you like best about your suburb?

On a Sunday morning when the breeze is just right I can sit outside and listen to the beautiful music coming from the Tongan Church.

How long have you lived here and where are you originally from?

I’m originally from Hamilton, I’ve been living in Grey Lynn for a year and Auckland for four years.

What do you like least and how can we fix it?

The rising rent. It’s unavoidable so I’ll just enjoy my time here while I can.

Where’s the best place to buy dinner in your suburb?

Peach Pit on K Rd. The menu there is crazy good and is always changing.

Who is the Kiwi you admire the most and why?

Helen Clark. She just keeps on giving, her capacity to care for all peoples is aspirational. She makes me proud to be a woman and proud to be a New Zealander and in this current political situation it’s sometimes hard to say that.

If I was Auckland’s mayor I would ...

Focus more attention on youth homelessness. There needs to be more local responsibility. We should all be responsible for each other. As a city we need to address the causes of homelessness and provide local solutions, not just pick up the pieces as they arise.

The spot I would recommend to tourists is ...

I would recommend for them to jump on an unknown bus and take it to the end of the line. The suburban tiki tour is the best way to really get a feel for a place.

When I have a few hours spare I like t o...

Muck around in the studio listening to music. I’m also heavily addicted to Home and Away which can be quite counter-productive.
