Science fair fun at Mo­tat

Ex­pe­ri­ence the science be­hind lasers, foren­sics and su­per bugs at the Mo­tat Street Science Fair.

The March 29 event is be­ing run in part­ner­ship with the Uni­ver­sity of Auck­land and New Zealand As­so­ci­a­tion of Sci­en­tists.

Dr Siouxsi Wiles will be there shar­ing her pas­sion for mi­cro- bi­ol­ogy and crea­tures like glow worms.

Vis­i­tors can have their pic­ture taken by the light of glow­ing bac­te­ria in a photo booth.

Pho­ton Fac­tory, a re­search fa­cil­ity spe­cial­is­ing in ul­tra fast lasers based at the Uni­ver­sity of Auck­land, will also be there.

The fair aims to be a hands-on ex­pe­ri­ence, Mo­tat chief ex­ec­u­tive Michael Fraw­ley says.

‘‘It show­cases the mu­seum’s com­mit­ment to fo­cus on Kiwi tech­nol­ogy and in­ge­nu­ity to ed­u­cate and in­spire vis­i­tors so that they go on to be­come the in­no­va­tors of to­mor­row,’’ he says.

Dis­cov­ery: The Mo­tat Street Science Fair is a hands-on day out.
