Bike or foot the way to go
What do you like best about living in Arch Hill?
Arch Hill is kind of hidden in between Ponsonby, Grey Lynn and Kingsland. So many great places within walking distance to grab a coffee, beer or meal as well as the fantastic Grey Lynn Library.
How long have you lived here and where are you originally from?
I’m originally from Hamilton and moved to Auckland in 2004 from Melbourne to study.
What do you like least Auckland and how can we fix it?
I love that being so central I can walk and ride just about everywhere I need to go but I don’t like that pedestrians and cyclists always play second fiddle to trucks and cars. I think that Auckland needs to shift away from its reliance on the car so we need to make it safer and easier to commute by bike and foot. Where’s the best place to buy dinner in
Just a short walk away the Blue Breeze Inn in Ponsonby Central is a favourite for me and the family.
And who does the best fish’n’chips?
We’re lucky to have the Newton fish ‘n chip shop at the end of our street.
Who is the Kiwi you admire most – and why?
Although he was adopted by the Aussies, Fred Hollows. More than a million people can see because of his work.
If I was Auckland’s mayor I’d...
Not really a job that I would want. I’m keen for the inner City Rail Link to be fast tracked and somewhat selfishly I would put a stop to the big-box retail development going on in Arch Hill.
When I’ve got a few free hours I like to...
Play the guitar or watch a movie. Take the kids to the library or one of the great local parks.
The spot I’d recommend to tourists is...
A day trip to Tiritiri Matangi will make a bird watcher of anyone.
Alastair: Loves everything being within walking distance.
