Work closes aquatic centre

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

Mt Albert Aquatic Centre will be closed from April 19 for renovations.

Works include repairs to the roof, exterior and interior walls, pools, water features, changing rooms, floor tiles, pumps, filters and electrical services.

‘‘Upgrading the centre will ensure the facility is safe and operational for another five to 10 years,’’ Mt Albert Grammar School Community Swimming Pool Trust chairwoman Glenda Fryer says.

The works are expected to take four months, though the 25m pool will be open earlier – around July 20 – to coincide with the beginning of term three.

Leisure manager Rob McGee says there will be minimal inconvenience for nearby or passing residents. The pool opened in 1998 and about 340,000 people visit the centre each year.
