Grafton United look well placed to push for a first innings victory af­ter day one of their cricket match with Eller­slie at Vic­to­ria Park in the Tom Hellaby Tro­phy.

The hosts bat­ted first and had some solid con­tri­bu­tions from through­out the bat­ting or­der with Di­lan Peris’ 40 be­ing the top score as Grafton amassed 195.

Matt New­man, 3/34 and Matt Coxon, 3/56, shared six of the wickets to fall with Eller­slie skip­per New­man on 42 wickets for the sea­son while English­man Coxon is just two shy of 50.

In re­ply Simon Lam­bert top-scored for Eller­slie with 48 and in do­ing so passed the 700-run mark for the sea­son.

How­ever Lam­bert lacked sup­port as no other Eller­slie bats­man was able to reach 20 and the vis­i­tors ended the day on 116/6 with Grafton‘s over­seas player Sam Rip­ping­ton claim­ing 3/40.
