Neighbours kick things off
This weekend sees the start of the 2015 Lotto Northern League, with the New North Rd derby between local first division teams Mt Albert-Ponsonby and Metro.
Games kick off at 7pm at Anderson Park tonight.
On Saturday, Central United and Three Kings United meet in a Central Auckland derby at the Croatian Cultural Club, while two other local premier league teams, Bay Olympic and Onehunga Sports, face road trips to Melville United and Waitakere City respectively.
Western Springs, last season’s first division champions, begin life in the premier league with a 5pm encounter on Saturday against Birkenhead United at Seddon Fields.
Second division teams get their campaigns under way also. Onehunga-Mangere United host Albany United to Mangere Domain on Saturday, while Lynn-Avon United head to league newcomers AFC Fury on Sunday.
They meet the Bay of Plenty club at Maramatanga Park.
Sunday is also the day the Lotto Northern Premier Women’s League gets under way.
Three Kings, under new coach Alan Hindson, and star signing Hannah Wall, take on title-holders Forrest HillMilford United at Keith Hay Park.
Lynn-Avon entertain ASB National Women’s Knockout Cup holders Glenfield Rovers at Ken Maunder Park.
A new-look Western Springs team are at home to Fencibles United on opening day.
