Dr Malcolm Legget is cycling the length of the North Island, more than 660 kilometres, alongside 11 others to raise funds and awareness for Unicorn Foundation New Zealand.
The charity supports New Zealand sufferers of neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) and their families.
The tumours can develop throughout the body but are particularly concentrated in the gastrointestinal system, lung, pancreas, ovary and testes.
Unicorn Foundation New Zealand is hoping to increase awareness and knowledge of the disease among the medical community and is backing an application to fund specialist equipment not available in hospitals here.
The group’s ‘‘Tour of New Zealand’’ kicks off on April 11.
