Prices rise quicker

Lo­cal house prices have in­creased faster in the Auck­land City Har­bour News’ cir­cu­la­tion area than any other area of Auck­land since the start of the year, ac­cord­ing to Bar­foot & Thomp­son. ‘‘The av­er­age sale price over the past 12 months at the end of March for lo­cal homes was $1.016 mil­lion, a 9 per cent in­crease over the past three months,’’ man­ag­ing direc­tor Peter Thomp­son says. ‘‘It makes this area the fastest grow­ing in terms of price across the en­tire city in the past quar­ter, more than dou­ble the 3.9 per cent ex­pe­ri­enced Auck­land wide. ‘‘Sales of prop­erty across Auck­land in March were un­prece­dented, with record prices be­ing achieved. ‘‘Lo­cally, the av­er­age sale price in March was $1.372 mil­lion. ‘‘Dur­ing the month we sold one lo­cal home for in ex­cess of $4 mil­lion, two for in ex­cess of $3 mil­lion, two for in ex­cess of $2 mil­lion and 26 for in ex­cess of $1 mil­lion.’’ Sub­urbs of great­est sales ac­tiv­ity in March were Pon­sonby, Mt Al­bert and Grey Lynn.
