Designs on a happy life

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

What do you like best about your suburb? The cosmopolitan people who truly appreciate design. How long have you lived here and where are you originally from? We arrived just this month! Todd was born and bred in Wellington, where his family has been in the furniture industry for generations; Fiona’s a North Canterbury farm gal. What do you like least and how can we fix it? The lack of accessible playgrounds. The hike back up from the bottom of Western Park is a bit much for our three-year-old boy. Install a cable car – problem solved! Who is the Kiwi you admire the most and why? Todd’s father, Michael Hayvice, for the way he has dealt with adversity on a number of occasions. Through stock market crashes, to a showroom burnt to the ground. He always picked himself up and turned coal into diamonds. Where’s the best place to buy dinner in Ponsonby? Our family gave us the heads up on Cafe Viet. The fit out is just like a small Asian side street and the Vietnamese food is exquisite. And who does the best fish and chips? Newton Fish and Chippery. They have been rolling up their garage door for years serving up great grassroots Kiwi fush n chups. If I was Auckland’s mayor I would ... Throw more support behind artistic endeavours. New Zealanders have such talent and Auckland could provide more platforms to showcase them. Spot I would recommend to tourists is ... Ponsonby as a shopping destination. It is an eclectic and creative community with unique retail experiences that YOYO is proud to be a part of. When I have a few hours free I like to ... Fiona: Lace up my runners and head for the hills. Todd: Take our son to explore and enjoy the city’s numerous green spaces and beaches.

Fiona (pictured) and Todd are new to Ponsonby but are already loving the cosmopolitan lifestyle.
