If you’re visiting the Fanzones during the Fifa U20 World Cup in June, listen out for a song by Mt Albert Grammar School music student James Donaldson. James was the joint winner of a competition run by the Play It Strange Trust on behalf of the cup organisers, with his song Colours. Fifa wanted a song by a young New Zealander that celebrated the coming together of nations for ‘‘one passion in one place’’. James spent about two weeks writing his entry, which was professionally recorded at Roundhead Studios with fellow MAGS musicians Nathan Rhodes-Hasler on lead guitar and Reuben Brooks on drums. Colours will be played at Fanzones set up for the public to watch matches on big screens, and may also be played at stadiums.
