Off to Italy
Three Ponsonby rugby players have been named in the New Zealand Under-20 team for next month’s World Rugby Under-20 Championship. Blake Gibson, Akira Ioane and Vincent Tavae-Aso join five other Auckland players heading for the tournament in Italy. The three will be released from their Super Rugby duties to join the squad. Three further players in the squad, Jack and Josh Goodhue and Nathaniel Apa, were also schooled in Auckland. Head coach Scott Robertson with assistant coaches Leon MacDonald and Tana Umaga confirmed their final selections after winning all their matches at the Oceania Rugby Junior Championship in Australia last week. The championship kicks off on June 2.
