Bikkie bak­ers help pups

It’s time to get out the mix­ing bowls, pop on an apron and whip up some pup­pyshaped bikkies for the an­nual Blind Foun­da­tion Red Puppy Bikkie Day.

Red Puppy Bikkie Day is on June 8 and keen cooks are en­cour­aged to ‘‘bake a dif­fer­ence’’ for guide dog pup­pies by sell­ing puppy-shaped bikkies to friends, work col­leagues or class­mates.

The event raises vi­tal funds for the breed­ing and train­ing of Blind Foun­da­tion guide dogs.

Last year, hun­dreds

of in­di­vid­u­als, work­places, schools and early child­hood cen­tres were in­volved and this year the Blind Foun­da­tion is hop­ing even more will take on the chal­lenge.

Ev­ery­one who reg­is­ters for the event gets a free puppy-shaped cookie cut­ter and some great bikkie recipes, in­clud­ing some by celebrity chef and Blind Foun­da­tion sup­porter Na­dia Lim.

Blind Foun­da­tion chief ex­ec­u­tive San­dra Budd says the pup­pies in train­ing are work­ing hard to one day be the eyes of New Zealan­ders who are blind or have low vi­sion.

Ev­ery­one who raises more than $75 will go in the draw to name a puppy.

Bak­ers who reg­is­ter for the Red Puppy Bikkie Day will re­ceive recipes by celebrity chef and Blind Foun­da­tion sup­porter Na­dia Lim.
