Park costs vary

The Shape Auck­land web­site con­sul­ta­tion on the pro­posed Cham­ber­lain Park re­de­vel­op­ment in­cludes cost­ings which re­veal a wide vari­a­tion in cost es­ti­mates.

In­clud­ing Waiti­tiko restora­tion and public ac­cess and con­nec­tion, the costs for each sce­nario range are:

Sce­nario 1 $5-$18.2 mil­lion, Sce­nario 2 $9.8 -$29m, Sce­nario 3 $15.1-$34.9m, and Sce­nario 4 $12.8-$29.8m (ex­clud­ing the cost of the pro­posed aquatic cen­tre).

Th­ese are sig­nif­i­cant costs and their im­pact on ratepay­ers should not be un­der­es­ti­mated.

In ad­di­tion, a quick check of new aquatic cen­tres re­cently built else­where in­di­cates that costs could well be in the $40- $50m range and it would be of as­sis­tance in the con­sul­ta­tion process if the Al­bertE­den Lo­cal Board was to ad­vise if it has re­ceived any cost­ings for the pro­posed aquatic cen­tre, and what they are if they have been re­ceived.
