Central but with relaxed vibe

Auckland City Harbour News - - NEWS -

What do you like best about Grey Lynn?

It is so central and has easy access to everything so you get all the benefits of a central city location but it still has a really relaxed vibe. How long have you lived here and where are you originally from?

I am originally from London but spent many years in Australia and also working in the yachting industry which took me all over the globe.

What do you like least and how could we fix it?

There isn’t much I would change about Grey Lynn, maybe just the house prices. As the influx of apartments happens it will be interesting to see new restaurants and services open up in the wider Grey Lynn area.

Where’s the best place to have dinner in central Auckland?

It’s impossible to pick just one. Two of my favourites are Mekong Baby and Baduzzi.

And who does the best fish ‘n chips?

I’m not a big fish ‘n chip eater but Ponsonby’s Jimmy the Fish works for me.

Who is the Kiwi admire most and why?

I had the pleasure of meeting the furniture designer David Trubridge at TEDx Talks a couple of years ago. He is all about sustainability and maintaining awareness of our responsibility as human beings while pursuing our dreams.

If I was Auckland’s mayor I would ...

Move the port outside of Auckland, either to Whangarei or Tauranga. No major city in the world has a port taking up prime real estate that could be beautiful botanical gardens, waterfront living and CBD business areas.

When I’ve got a few free hours I like to ...

Get to the beach. There are great beaches in Auckland for a walk or a summer swim, one of my favourites we endearingly call Minnehaha.

The spot in Auckland I’d recommend to tourists is ...

Really you can’t beat Waiheke. The island is stunning and the wineries and food options are world class.
