Popular Art in the Dark event stalls over funding issues
Art in the Dark will not go ahead this year due to funding issues.
The free event, held annually at Ponsonby’s Western Park, features artworks and brightly lit installations commissioned and created especially for it.
Organisers hope the festival can return in 2016 but based on last year’s turnout, it’s now considered too big for Western Park.
Producer Ella Mizrahi says options included extending the event over a week or moving it to a bigger location like Western Springs but more funding was needed either way.
‘‘Hopefully by missing a year people go, ‘that’s an awesome event, it’s such a shame it’s going’.’’
The festival has taken place in November for the past five years.
It is operated by Art in the Dark Charitable Trust and produced by Celery Productions.
Organisers say more than 150,000 visitors had attended the event over the past five years.
