An over­due rates case re­gard­ing a Kings­land prop­erty is head­ing to court. The residential rates bill, to­talling more than $34,000, is one of six be­ing pur­sued through the courts by Auck­land Coun­cil. Other cases in­clude more than $40,000 owed on an Auck­land Cen­tral apart­ment and al­most $43,000 on a San­dring­ham house. Par­lia­ment granted lo­cal author­i­ties broad pow­ers un­der the Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment (Rat­ing) Act 2002 to as­sess, levy and col­lect rates. Court ac­tion is a last re­sort for Auck­land Coun­cil, a spokesper­son says.
