Onehunga Sports Football Club have fallen at the final hurdle in their Manchester United Premier Cup qualifier. The team lost their final match 3-0 against Federation NSW State, missing out on a chance to play at Old Trafford. The game was a rematch after Onehunga lost to the same side on their opening day in pool play. Onehunga coach Leigh Kenyon says ‘‘the players can still hold their heads high, there is absolutely nothing more they could have done at this tournament’’ after winning three of their four pool matches on opening day. Captain Max Mata took home the Golden Boot with a tournament high of six goals.
Ponsonby Ponies premier players Luke Maoate, left, and Ryan Walton go the extra mile to play for their club.
