Get creative at the art gallery
Auckland’s Zinefest 2016 is bringing the art gallery to life.
Auckland’s creative community is coming together at Auckland Art Gallery for Zinefest.
Zinefest is now in its eighth year and has grown from its small beginnings on K Rd.
Zines are small self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images.
Festival organiser Linda Lew has been involved since 2014.
‘‘It started off at St Kevin’s Arcade with around 30 stalls and we have outgrown that space and we have expanded this year to the Auckland Art Gallery.’’
Lew is excited for the event to be held the art gallery as she hopes it will attract a wider audience including families.
The DIY event is for anyone interested in self-publishing, making their ownmagazines, comics or any type of community arts project.
Zinefest will feature works from more than 60 artists and zine makers displaying and selling a wide variety of creative endeavours, and is run by a team of volunteers.
‘‘It fits in with the wider revival of the vintage and retro culture.’’
Learn how to make zines, listen to speakers talk about their creative careers and browse the 70 stalls for free until July 31.
