Auckland City Harbour News - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE - STAFF REPORTER

Eat My Lunch has hit a major milestone giving 250,000 lunches to Kiwi kids in Auckland and Hamilton.

Launched in June 2015, EML’s aim has been to alleviate a nationwide issue by creating social change through something as routine as eating lunch. The social enterprise takes a new approach to the problem of poverty through its Buy One Give One model which provides affordable, wholesome lunches made fresh daily and delivered directly to workplaces and schools. For every purchase of a commercial lunch, Eat My Lunch delivers a free lunch to a child who would otherwise go hungry.

‘‘What sets us apart is the fact we have a sustainable and selffunding business model, which everyone can participate in. Buy One, Give One is intrinsically linked,’’ Eat My Lunch founder Lisa King says.

More than 2000 volunteers are helping to make the Give lunches.

‘‘We have people from all walks of life come to our headquarters at 6.30am every morning ... I think it’s signalled to us that people just care about what we’re doing and our purpose,’’ King says.

EML delivers lunches to hungry kids in 35 low decile schools in Auckland and Hamilton, and opens for business in Wellington in October. Visit eatmylunch.nz for details.
