Improved cycle options
Cyclists and pedestrians in Auckland can look forward to improvements in infrastructure.
Plans have been revealed for four major walking and cycling routes, and improvements for bus users in the inner west suburbs.
The improvements will provide greater travel options for people living in Grey Lynn, Westmere, Arch Hill and beyond.
The plans are for a new cycleway and improvements to the bus route along Great North Rd; another cycleway up Richmond Rd to Surrey Cres; a third on Garnet Rd, Old Mill Rd and Surrey Cres; and improved connections between the already completed routes in Grey Lynn Park and Cox’s Bay Reserve. This route will continue up Grosvenor Rd to Great North Rd.
The routes are the start of a connected network of cycleways for people travelling in the area, and will make getting to local shops, schools, parks, and community centres easier.
The cycleways will also improve access for people travelling by bike into the city centre.
AT is working with project partners Auckland Council and the Government through the NZ Transport Agency and Urban Cycleways Programme on a $200m programme of cycle improvements from 2015 to 2018.
