Goff says his first in­struc­tion if he be­came mayor would be to put a stop to any ex­ten­sion of wharves out into Auck­land’s har­bour.

‘‘This is our har­bour as Auck­lan­ders. It doesn’t be­long to the Ports of Auck­land, they’re the ten­ant there at the time,’’ he says. ’’I just think it’s crazy that the most ex­pen­sive real es­tate in New Zealand, the jewel and crown of our environment, they want to use as a sec­ond hand car park lot. I’m not in favour of that.’’

A re­cent re­port has said bulk cargo will mean the port will run out of room in three to ten years, Goff says.
