Auckland author launches a whale tale
A whale tale from a Meadowbank author is all about overcoming obstacles and dreaming big.
Claudia Gibb has just released a children’s book Minty wants to go to New York City which is all about getting to where you want to be.
‘‘This book is a whale tale about following your dreams, having the courage to do the right thing, and saving our precious oceans,’’ Gibb says.
Gibb struck up a collaboration with graphic artist Camila Abondano, and together they have produced and published Minty wants to go to New York City.
Gibb and Abondano hope to inspire young people aged between 4 and 10 to become big dreamers, just like Minty the Whale.
Minty seeks adventure and dreams of taking a trip to the Big Apple. Minty sets out to New York from New Zealand and takes the reader on an adventure across the oceans of the world.
Gibb knows a thing or two about goal-setting.
When she was 8 years old she wrote down her life goals and second on the list after ‘‘movie star’’ was to live in New York City.
‘‘When I was 18 during my last year of high school I achieved that goal, by earning a scholarship to Upstate New York,’’ she says.
Gibb fell in love with Brooklyn after her studies took her there.
But Gibb’s time in New York was shortened suddenly due to a health condition with her eyes.
The New York dream was over. She had to return to New Zealand for treatment and refocus her dreams.
While living in Meadowbank, Gibb still had New York on her mind and a belief in dreaming big. This is when she met Abondano and their collaboration started.
The book was written and printed in Auckland and is on sale at Paper Plus stores including Meadowbank.
