Pub­lic hear­ings for the Pro­vi­sional Auck­land Coun­cil Lo­cal Al­co­hol Pol­icy (LAP) started on Mon­day. The hear­ings will be at the Auck­land District Court over three weeks. The LAP aims to help min­imise al­co­hol-re­lated har­ma­cross the re­gion and in­flu­ence where new al­co­hol li­cences are al­lowed to es­tab­lish, how many new al­co­hol li­cences are al­lowed and when bars, restau­rants and night­clubs can sell al­co­hol. Auck­land Coun­cil con­sulted on its draft pol­icy in 2014 and con­sid­ered nearly

2,700 writ­ten sub­mis­sions and more than 100 oral sub­mis­sions be­fore adopt­ing the pro­vi­sional pol­icy in May 2015.
