Throughout March, individuals and teams across the country will virtually walk around New Zealand. More than 2200 people have signed up for the Auckland Walk Challenge to compete against each other. The challenge aims to encourage Aucklanders to leave their car at home and use their feet for shorter journeys. Auckland Transport walking and cycling safety manager Kathryn King said two thirds of vehicle trips made in the city were less than three kilometres. She encourages people to walk at least one of those journeys in an aim to reduce the number of cars on the road. Visit auckland.walkertracker.com to sign up.
