Trump artwork auction
A golden sculpture depicting US President Donald Trump projecting from a cross up for auction hit $520 before the live bidding had even started.
Ross Forbes’ Star of Donald was on sale as part of Auckland charity Frame Works’ 2017 art auction which raising money for the Asylum Seekers Support Trust.
It shows the US Commander in Chief’s head superimposed on a cross - all in fake gold.
It’s made of 3-D printed plastic, wood, and aluminium, and the pre-auction bid sat at $520 ahead of the live auction on Tuesday night.
Forbes said the piece did not have an obscure meaning and was a response to the political context of the current refugee crisis.
‘‘I just wanted to evoke a glittering repugnance,’’ Forbes said.
