Apple’s new iOS 11 software update has been welcomed by Road Safety charity Brake. The update will include a new ‘‘do not disturb while driving’’ mode for iPhones. The new feature will detect whether someone is driving and turn off all notifications, as well as setting an automatic text response to notify friends and family when the driver is behind the wheel. Brake’s director Caroline Perry said mobile phone use at the wheel was a growing problem. She said it was good to see some phone manufacturers helping cut distractions. A study found drivers who use phones at the wheel are four times more likely to be in a crash resulting in injuries.
