Dementia Auckland raised more than $24,000 for its annual appeal in the first weekend of July, up from $18,500 last year. Dementia Auckland is a non profit organisation that provides dementia services from diagnosis to residential care. The funds will go to help those who live with dementia. The group also provides support for families of people with dementia by providing information, education and support programmes. Two in every three New Zealanders will be affected by dementia in some way in their life. About 16,000 people in Auckland suffer dementia, a figure which is expected to double over the next two decades.
