De­men­tia Auck­land raised more than $24,000 for its an­nual ap­peal in the first week­end of July, up from $18,500 last year. De­men­tia Auck­land is a non profit or­gan­i­sa­tion that pro­vides de­men­tia ser­vices from di­ag­no­sis to res­i­den­tial care. The funds will go to help those who live with de­men­tia. The group also pro­vides sup­port for fam­i­lies of peo­ple with de­men­tia by pro­vid­ing in­for­ma­tion, education and sup­port pro­grammes. Two in ev­ery three New Zealan­ders will be af­fected by de­men­tia in some way in their life. About 16,000 peo­ple in Auck­land suf­fer de­men­tia, a fig­ure which is ex­pected to dou­ble over the next two decades.
