A new initiative has been signed by Auckland hospices, which will result in more palliative care options made available for more Aucklanders. The agreement, which includes five regional hospices, will usher in a regionwide approach to palliative care which is hoped to improve the way the whole health system identifies palliative needs. Hospices of Auckland chairman Barbara Williams said the agreement allowed the development of palliative care delivery in Auckland. It was a wonderful step towards ensuring more people received earlier access to care, she said. The initiative will receive $2.2 million a year from the Ministry of Health.
