It’s time to…

Australian Women’s Weekly NZ - - GARDEN NOTES -

Prune deciduous trees into a neat shape – and get rid of branches that try to decapitate you when you mow the grass under them.

Love your roots: carrots, beetroot and parsnips are sweetest and most tender in winter – roast them now!

Fill vases with scented winter blooms like Daphne or Erlicheer daffodils, to fill the house with happiness.

Plant your favourite fruit tree. If you have no room, donate one to the local school – all kids deserve the chance to pick some fruit then munch on it.

Rake up those dead leaves you have neglected, especially on paths, and add them to your compost heap – rotting leaves can be slippery and potential leg breakers.

Forget window boxes – hang potted succulents that need little watering up on a sturdy curtain rail to give you ‘green windows’.

Plant your favourite fruit tree.
