An Otago univer­sity study has found a nat­u­ral plant-based herbal ex­tract that is sci­en­tif­i­cally proven to re­lieve the pain of os­teoarthri­tis. The 12-week ran­domised, con­trolled trial stud­ied the ef­fec­tive­ness of New Zealand-man­u­fac­tured Arthrem, which is ex­tracted from the plant Artemisia an­nua. The re­sults, pub­lished in the jour­nal Clin­i­cal Rheuma­tol­ogy, found trial par­tic­i­pants with hip or knee os­teoarthri­tis had re­duced pain and stiff­ness and an in­creased abil­ity to move after tak­ing Arthrem.
