I can be prone to hyperbole in my binge-watch picks, which I put down to the fact that if I am going to invest at least six hours in something, I need it to be EXCELLENT. So, yes, you must watch Game of Thrones, Homeland, House of Cards, Mr. Robot and The Night Manager. But taking the cake this year for me? Stranger Things on Netflix. Spielbergian in feel, riffing on everything from Close Encounters and E.T. to Stand By Me and The Goonies, this straight from the 80s to your smart TV, eight-episode series is a wee bit scary, quite a bit funny, and has a whole lot of heart. The story kicks off with the disappearance of a boy, a distraught mother, and suspicious goings-on at a nearby government compound, and very soon morphs into crazy. Outstanding storytelling!
