Sow salad seeds di­rect. You’ll have more suc­cess than if you sow seed in trays, as they dry out too quickly in the heat of sum­mer. • Sow parsnips, swedes and Brus­sels sprouts for win­ter. Pro­tect these and other bras­si­cas from white cab­bage but­ter­fly cater­pil­lars. • It’s not too late to pot up chill­ies, as you can move the con­tain­ers un­der cover come au­tumn. • Trans­plant pun­nets of let­tuces, basil, pars­ley and per­pet­ual spinach.
