PICK OF THE BUNCH

Australian Women’s Weekly NZ - - FROM THE VINEYARD -

1. Perfect for pav

2014 MICHELE CHIARLO ‘NIVOLE’ MOSCATO D’ASTI $18 (375ML)

A delicately fizzy, fruity gem from Piedmont. At only five per cent alcohol, it’s light, fresh and perfumed with a musky grapey sweetness. Just the ticket to end the meal, or as a palate cleanser between courses.

2. Tops with turkey

2012 SEPPELT ORIGINAL SPARKLING SHIRAZ $25

A uniquely Australian style of wine, this is a joyous, warm, richly spiced, berryfruit-laden sparkler, deep in colour and flavour with gentle acidity and tannins and a cleansing whoosh of fizz to finish.

3. Seafood star

2015 WAIRAU RIVER MARLBOROUGH SAUVIGNON BLANC $20

Wonderfully vibrant with a medley of tropical and herbal aromas/flavours; crisp with a dry, minerally, lengthy finish. Invitingly drinkable, it will suit tricky-to-match asparagus too.

4. Helping ham

2014 CROSSROADS WINEMAKERS COLLECTION HAWKE’S BAY CHARDONNAY $34

A good chardonnay is a thing of joy and this was my absolute favourite at a big London wine show. Elegant, fresh, intense and beautifully made, featuring rich peach, citrus and fresh nut butter. Very delish.

5. Salmon sipper

2014 CIRCUIT WAIPARA PINOT NOIR $30

A gently fragrant wine with pretty red fruits and a juicy, fresh palate from Black Estate in Waipara. A light savoury note adds interest and texture; a great food wine. And it is good value too.
