Happy People Read & Drink Coffee

Australian Women’s Weekly NZ - - BOOKS - by Agnès Martin-Lugand, Allen & Unwin.

Sometimes the simplest novels are the most inspirational – and sometimes it is all in the translation. French author Martin-Lugand has a knack of getting under her characters’ skins and they’re as touchable as the pain and joy this sweet story exudes. The title is the name of the Paris literary café Diane runs with friend Felix. Lawyer husband Colin had always yearned for the family to live in Ireland, with daughter Clara. When a car accident leaves a dying Colin in hospital, begging Diane to stay strong for Clara, the unimaginable has already unfolded. He doesn’t know their daughter died in the ambulance. Smoking, shuffling around in her pyjamas, grieving Diane decides to up sticks and move to a cottage in Ireland, where her life takes a new and rather delicious turn.
