Dulce de leche is a caramel made from sweet­ened con­densed milk. If you pre­fer, use ready-made dulce de leche from delis and gourmet stores. The lus­cious multi-tex­tured lay­ers of this cake mean it will be a lit­tle bit messy to serve. Cut the cake us­ing a finely ser­rated knife. Blow­torches are avail­able from home­ware and hard­ware stores. Al­ter­na­tively, you can place the ba­nanas un­der a hot grill to caramelise the sugar.
