Blackcurrants are taking the spotlight on the superfood stage. Rich in antioxidants known as anthocyanins, the fruit is being praised for its effect on muscle recovery, performance and fat-burning, with studies showing that consuming concentrated blackcurrant supplements can increase fat loss by up to a third during exercise. It was also found that blackcurrant extract could potentially dilate the body’s blood vessels, causing a 20 per cent increase in blood flow and nutrient and oxygen delivery to cells.
