Blackcurra­nts are taking the spotlight on the superfood stage. Rich in antioxidan­ts known as anthocyani­ns, the fruit is being praised for its effect on muscle recovery, performanc­e and fat-burning, with studies showing that consuming concentrat­ed blackcurra­nt supplement­s can increase fat loss by up to a third during exercise. It was also found that blackcurra­nt extract could potentiall­y dilate the body’s blood vessels, causing a 20 per cent increase in blood flow and nutrient and oxygen delivery to cells.
