Black­cur­rants are tak­ing the spot­light on the su­per­food stage. Rich in an­tiox­i­dants known as an­tho­cyanins, the fruit is be­ing praised for its ef­fect on mus­cle re­cov­ery, per­for­mance and fat-burn­ing, with stud­ies show­ing that con­sum­ing con­cen­trated black­cur­rant sup­ple­ments can in­crease fat loss by up to a third dur­ing ex­er­cise. It was also found that black­cur­rant ex­tract could po­ten­tially di­late the body’s blood ves­sels, caus­ing a 20 per cent in­crease in blood flow and nu­tri­ent and oxy­gen de­liv­ery to cells.
