Af­ter-school scones

MAKES 10-12 BIG SCONES

3 cups self-rais­ing flour ½ tea­spoon salt 50 g but­ter ap­prox­i­mately 1 cup milk

1 Pre­heat oven to 200°C. Line an oven tray with bak­ing paper.

2 Place flour and salt in a large bowl. Warm but­ter and milk, stir­ring un­til the but­ter has fully melted. Pour into the flour and mix to a soft dough, adding ex­tra cold milk if re­quired.

3 Tip dough out onto a floured board and press flat into a 3cm-thick slab. Cut out squares and place close to each other on the pre­pared tray. Brush with milk and bake for 15-20 min­utes. Cool on a wire rack, cov­ered with a clean tea towel.
