THE TERRANAUTS, by T.C. Boyle, Harper Collins.

Australian Women’s Weekly NZ - - BOOKS - JB

The terranauts are astronauts who never leave Earth, their “spaceship” a sealed, selfsustaining dome in the Arizona desert enclosing multiple environments, from jungle to desert to ocean. T.C. Boyle’s black comedy, inspired by the true-life Biosphere Project of the 1990s, starts as Mission Control makes its final, hotly contested selection of four men and four women who’ll be locked away for two years in Ecosphere One, the world’s most ambitious ecological experiment. “An ark to save humanity”, in the grandiose words of the billionaire behind the project – though all the high-minded science in the world can’t change human nature and it’s soon like Survivor Under Glass in there as greed, jealousy and hormones take over.
